Sbongiseni 'Mjikijelwa' Ngubane (also known as Ichalaha lika Shafuza) is a maskandi performing artist and 12-string guitarist. He was born on 17 September 1983 in KwaJikijiki, uMvoti in KwaZulu-Natal. He started his music career in 2001 as a dancer and composer under the mentorship of the late Khulekani Kwakhe 'Mgqumeni' Khumalo. He composed several songs for Mgqumeni’s albums, including 'Ithwasa Lami', which showcased his flourishing talent.
In 2009 Mjikijelwa (aka Mjik'jelwa) established himself as a solo artist. He also composes and produces albums for four different groups on annual basis: Umjik'jelwa, Amangcukumane, Omenzelwa and Ichalaha likaShafuza. He currently leads all four groups, who are produced by his own company, Mjikijelwa Music Production. Since 2009, Mjikijelwa has produced 18 Albums and two DVDs, with the majority of songs (95%) composed by himself and the rest by members of his bands. Mjikijelwa has also produced other artists under his label, including: Piwa Manqele, Nhlanhla Mseleku, Amafikalishona, Indodakazi YeNtandane and Mpilo Mkhwanazi.
Mjikijelwa has been nominated for various traditional music awards, including the SATMAs and AmaNtshontsho Awards. He has also performed at numerous prestigious traditional music festivals and events. source: www.musicinafrica.net
