Nomfundo Mkhize balances roles as an on-air personality for youth programmes, a part time student, budding business woman and a youth community developer.

As a UKZN law student, In 2012, Nomfundo was a finalist in the Ellie Newman Moot Competition. As one of the top 4 students in her year, she got the opportunity to argue a mock case before the Chief Justice of The Constitutional Court Mogoeg- Mogoeng and the Judge President of the Durban Bar, Mr. Naidoo.

Having started her radio career at the tender age of 17 on Ukhozifm as the youngest radio presenter to join them, she has now been working at Ukhozifm for the past 9 years. She has grown immensely in that time as a young professional, having been nominated for an MTN radio award in 2012, in the best day time presenter category, the youngest in her category and nominee of the night. She is also a SAFTA nominee for presenting the 4th season of the animal wildlife program- Creature Club on SABC 3. Work also includes being a producer for on air content at Ukhozi fm and a voice over artist.

Nomfundo is the co- founder in a 100% black female owned Company called the Youth Chamber of Shipping in Africa (YCSA), which seeks to create awareness and inform the indigent youth of SA about the maritime industry as well as provide unique access opportunities to maritime graduates with big maritime corporate or government stakeholders. She has been approached by the Banking Association South Africa, to be one of the National Youth Ambassadors for their “Teach Children To Save South Africa” campaign.

Her passion for education development, particularly in semi –urban and rural areas, is what lead her to using some of her savings to set up the YCSA. Her passion is encompassed in programmes that she runs under the YCSA, visiting rural schools all over KZN, Eastern Cape and Limpopo.

On the 26th of August 2014, former KZN Premier Mr. Senzo Mchunu and wife Thembeka, honoured Nomfundo as a KZN Young Women Leader Achiever at a high tea event in Durban. She is a 2018 Mandela Washington Fellow, who has attended t the University of Notre Dame in the United States of America, her academic component focused on business and entrepreneurship. She has also received a 6 week professional development experience at the Voice of America in Washington DC, working with Ndimyake Mwakalyelye.

Nomfundo, through her youth programmes, is a strong advocate of Youth self-empowerment. A young multifaceted professional with a listenership of over 1000 000 on her shows, Nomfundo has no intention of slowing down her growth.
