Thembeka is young, energetic and passionate woman who has found her footing as broadcaster, community builder and an inspiration other young people. Thembeka’s star is on the rise. Her career is thriving. She currently has one of the most prestigious and influential jobs in SA media.She’s a presenter on Ukhozi FM; SA’s biggest radio station. She engages with the most influential personalities in the country, be it her influential and iconic colleagues at Ukhozi FM or studio guests and newsmakers. Thembeka’s vibrant personality and confidence serves her well in this demanding role. Her Ukhozi FM platform has given rise to the brand “Thembeka Zondo” which she has leveraged into successfully in other avenues like being a professional MC for corporate events and a speaker in platforms targeting young women.

Thembeka was born in Newcastle’s eMadadeni township on 22nd April 1987. She attended Ferndale Combined School where she took full advantage of a variety of interests that tested and showcased her abilities. She participated in debating, drama, arts and athletics. A highlight of Thembeka’s very industrious time in school was her selection as a leader of all the KZN school teams that participated in a British government-sponsored campaign called “The Dreams & Teams” in 2003. Growing up in the modest surroundings of KwaMashu in the 1980’s, Thembeka, faced “a life with limitations” which made her to strive for a better life. She became determined and focused on learning as much possible to in order to capitalize on all opportunities.

Her drive saw her participate in community projects while still in high school. She gained valuable knowledge and confidence which enabled her mentor the youth in the community. After matric, she got a bursary to study Information Technology and completed a diploma at Aptech College in 2008 where she was became a facilitator for International Computer Driver’s Licence (ICDL) . In 2009, she decided to explore her passion for media and ventured into community radio. She joined Vibe FM, a community station in KwaMashu, as a volunteer presenter. She got an opportunity to host a primetime weekend show. To enhance her skills in broadcasting, she took courses in Technical Broadcasting, Programme production and Signal distribution. VibeFM management noticed her technical and leadership skills and appointed as a Technical Manager where she oversaw all the technical and production matters. She took to this challenge in her stead and gained valuable experience as a team player and as team leader. She continued to present her programme which allowed her to enhance her profile as a presenter.

In 2011, Thembeka entered a radio talent search competition by uKhozi FM and Vodacom. Her confidence and experience gained from Vibe FM shone through the various stages of the contest. She convinced the millions of Ukhozi FM listeners to vote her as the winner of the competition. This gave her an opportunity to become a trainee jock on Ukhozi FM. This triumph gave her the opportunity she had always been dreaming about though she had never imagined that she would be part of such a big and iconic radio brand that is Ukhozi FM.

In the two years that she has been with Ukhozi FM she has proven herself beyond doubt that she has the makings of becoming one of the best broadcasters in South Africa. This has been affirmed by her appointment contracted freelance and being given an opportunity to host one of the most important slots on the radio station, the Sunday morning breakfast show. She also stands-in for the iconic Dudu Khoza on her award winning daily mid-morning show Jabulujule, one of the biggest shows on Ukhozi FM.
