Dudu Khoza’s Beginnings

It goes without a doubt that as one mentions the name Dudu “Lady D” Khoza the words that would automatically come to people’s minds are words such as Jabul’ujule, radio personality, presenter, program director, ambassador, events coordinator, motivational speaker, public figure, mother to many, philanthropist, inspirational, and with some simply regarding her as the “queen of the airwaves”.

This talented radio jock was born in Marianhill Mission, near Pinetown but grew up in Umlazi Township where she matriculated in Ohlange High School because she has always been very passionate about helping people, after high school she went on to pursue a nursing profession and obtained a diploma in General Nursing, Midwifery and Community Health Nursing. Under the nom de plume “Sister Midred”, she reached vast members of the community through magazine columns, newspaper articles and radio talks on family planning on the then Radio Zulu which is today popularly known as Ukhozi FM.

It was there where former Ukhozi FM station manager Mr. Hawu Mbatha saw great potential in the way that Dudu Khoza interacted with the audience and suggested that she auditions for a radio presenting job, which she did gracefully and mastered with flying colours. And that was the beginning of her successful career as a radio presenter on the number one radio station in the country. More than 15 years later she is regarded as the living legend of Ukhozi FM.
