About
Nonhlanhla Rhodesia Buthelezi, professionally known as Mroza, hails from a small rural village in Northern KwaZulu-Natal. Her educational journey began at Dokodweni Primary School, followed by Amatikulu Secondary School, and she completed her studies at Vukile High School in Maphumulo. In 1995, she pursued a Diploma in Teaching at the College of Education of South Africa (CESA).
Early in her career, Nonhlanhla faced the challenge of a difficult job market as many educators were retrenched. Undeterred, she focused her energy on community development and became actively involved in local projects. Passionate about empowering young people, she founded the Dokodweni Coastal Development Youth Group with the goal of reducing crime and keeping the youth engaged in positive activities. This initiative proved to be a pivotal moment in her journey, as it led to an invitation from Love Life Organization to observe and participate in various activities such as drama, music, and dance.
Her involvement with Love Life opened doors, and she was soon hired as a Groundbreaker, a dynamic youth role where she worked closely with peers to promote positive messages in schools throughout the province. This experience laid the foundation for her radio career when she was offered a position at Icora FM, a community radio station in Eshowe, in June 2000.
At Icora FM, Nonhlanhla hosted the highly popular Drive Home Show from 15h00 to 18h00, Monday to Friday. Her role expanded as she became more involved in station promotions, eventually leading to her appointment as Marketing Manager. While honing her skills at Icora FM, she also participated in radio training programs to enhance her broadcasting expertise.
In August 2004, Nonhlanhla’s career took a significant leap when she joined SABC Radio’s Ukhozi FM, one of the most prestigious radio stations in South Africa, where she continued to sharpen her craft and broaden her influence in the media industry.
Looking ahead, Nonhlanhla’s future ambitions are focused on both the media and marketing industries. She envisions creating a TV talk show that highlights the achievements of individuals and uses their personal stories to inspire and develop others. Additionally, she aims to launch her own youth clothing brand and expand her presence in the radio industry.
