Nozipho Zulu, affectionately known as MaZul’ Ozulayo, is a dynamic South African radio presenter who gained widespread recognition after winning the prestigious Winnie Mahlangu Female Presenter Search at Ukhozi FM in 2023. Originally from Empangeni, in northern KwaZulu-Natal, Nozipho’s journey is a testament to resilience, dedication, and an unwavering passion for broadcasting.
Early Life and Education
Born and raised in Esikhaleni Township under the uMhlathuze Municipality, Nozipho completed her high school education at Futura High School. She pursued further studies in Analytical Chemistry at Mangosuthu University of Technology, and is currently continuing her education in Public Management at Metro Computec College. Her academic and professional journey reflects her commitment to personal growth and excellence, both on and off the airwaves. Nozipho’s story serves as an inspiration to aspiring broadcasters, particularly community radio presenters, demonstrating that perseverance and passion can turn dreams into reality.
Broadcasting Career
Before joining Ukhozi FM, Nozipho developed her broadcasting skills at Imbokodo FM and Icora FM, where she hosted various shows, including prominent breakfast shows. During her tenure at Icora FM, Nozipho was also promoted to Sales & Marketing Manager, further expanding her expertise in the media industry. Although she briefly considered stepping away from radio to pursue business ventures, the encouragement of her supporters led her to submit a demo for the 2023 Winnie Mahlangu Female Presenter Search, an opportunity that reignited her passion for radio and marked the next pivotal chapter in her career.
Joining Ukhozi FM
Nozipho’s breakthrough came in 2023 when she won the Winnie Mahlangu Female Presenter Search, an initiative launched by Ukhozi FM in 2020 to honor the legacy of Winnie Mahlangu, the first Black female radio presenter on Radio Bantu in 1962. The competition aims to discover and empower emerging female radio talent across South Africa, and Nozipho’s success has positioned her as a rising star in the industry.
Current Role at Ukhozi FM
After undergoing mentorship at Ukhozi FM, Nozipho began hosting the Sunday early morning show, Kwasa Okungaliyo, from 3:00 AM to 6:00 AM. In the 2025/26 fiscal year, she transitioned to host ZIYAKHIPHA, previously known as “Akulalwa,” airing on Saturdays from 12:00 AM to 3:00 AM. Nozipho continues to bring fresh energy, vibrant content, and engaging discussions to Ukhozi FM’s diverse audience.
