Mandla Magwaza affectionately known by “Njinji Wami” hails from Jozini, northern KwaZulu-Natal. While still in high school, his passion for radio set foot at Maputaland Community Radio where he worked as a gossip and entertainment contributor. After completing Matric in 2003, he furthered his studies and enrolled for a course in radio production. He officially began his radio career at Durban Youth Radio in 2005 where he hosted the weekend’s night shows and it wasn’t long before he clinched the coveted spot hosting the weekdays afternoon drive show. Through his hard work and excellence that he delivered, he was offered the position of a Freelance Technical Producer in 2007 by the SABC RBF department. In 2008 he joined the SABC Radio Sales as an in house Sound Engineer before he joined Ukhozi FM as a Technical Producer for the Vuka Mzansi Breakfast show which back then was hosted by the legendary Linda ‘Mr Magic” Sibiya. Today he hosts the Ukhozi FM chart show, Ukhozi FM Top 20 every Saturday.
Njinji Wami has never looked back and his popularity grew so much on the station that he started holding in for other presenters on the prime time shows from 2010. He is currently presenting the Top 20 countdown music show, Africa’s biggest music show which has in the past been hosted by radio legends such as Kansas City.
“Njinji Wami” is not one to rest as he serves as an Ambassador for a private Tertiary Institution and has endorsed a number of prominent brands including Alfa Romeo and Toyota. He is the founder of the successful & Career Expo that interacts with driven young people from rural areas with a passion for entrepreneurship and business skills.
Njinji Wami had an opportunity to work in the shows of the versatile and legendary Dudu “Lady D‘ Khoza and popular personality, Linda Mr Magic Sibiya. Through their mentorship, he has been able to broaden his knowledge of radio and the media industry. He has cultivated the skills needed to stay relevant and entertaining to his listeners. He is currently mentoring a group of young people and continues to inspire a generation of hopefuls from disadvantaged backgrounds with his enthusiasm, hard work and wisdom. In his spare time, Njinji Wami enjoys relaxing at home and watching movies. He also admits to an obsession for different types of cologne and is a fan of sports cars.
He attributes his success to the fact that he’s a people’s person and mostly he strives for excellence in all that he does. Despite his success and experience, “Njinji Wami” remains very humble about his achievements. He believes this is only the foundation of his success and he is continuing to work hard to achieve even more than he already has.
“Njinji wami” is greatness defined. Ask any one of Ukhozi Fm’s 7.6 million listeners, his thousands of Facebook fans and Twitter followers, this highly energetic and young dynamo with a booming baritone voice is easy to love and impossible to ignore.
